We kicked off our Fall YAS initiative a few weeks ago at the International Preschool of Raleigh by doing our YAS (You are Special) activity, where students made You are Special cards for their classmates and celebrated their classmates’ unique qualities. This week, we are doing our first online YAS campaign of Fall 2019! We posted this EdWordle on our Instagram page showing a few (of many) words you could use to tell someone that they are special. Feel free to use these words as an inspiration to tell others why they are special to you!

Hi everyone! On behalf of Leaders UNITE, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year, filled with happiness and success. To start the New Year on a positive note, like my Facebook status for a YAS!

For those of you that do not know, YAS is a Leaders UNITE social media movement. YAS stands for You Are Special and highlights the positive traits we see in one another. Feel free to post this as your status to continue the movement. For each person that likes the status, I will post on their wall, beginning with, “YAS because…” and then saying nice things about the person. It is easy and fun. So like my status- or make it your own- to give it a try!
We are happy to spread positivity on Facebook! The status can be found on my personal page and on the Duke YAS page.
Great news- we recently started a YAS page for Duke University. While we are still working out some of the tagging and other posting tricks, we a proud and excited to see what this page will accomplish. We hope that this page encourages positivity in the community and that everyone can enjoy every part of this project.
Here is the Leaders UNITE schedule for the 2015-2016 school year. We are doing things a little bit differently this year, but we believe that this schedule will more accurately portray the goals of the club as well as be more practical for a diverse amount of schools with different club times, resources, etc. If you have any questions regarding the schedule, feel free to email or contact leadersuniteclub@gmail.com . We are excited for the upcoming school year and cannot wait to see what you all will accomplish!
YAS is taking on Facebook in a new way! Each interested school is getting own YAS Facebook page! People can send in YAS notes anonymously or with their name on the virtual note. Then, the administrator of the page (either me or someone from your school who is interested) will post the virtual note on the Facebook page. The page will be filled with YAS messages! Feel free to comment on YAS messages or just take pleasure in the kind words of your peers.

New Year goal setting/planning workshop.
Spend a fun day with other members of Leaders UNITE while planning goals for the 2015 year. We will also discuss changes in education systems (including changes that make leadership more engaging), how to become a more prominent leader in a school environment, and do a few of the Leaders UNITE activities.
Dates are still being confirmed, but they will be posted soon!
Me Too project.
This project will be announced fully in January of 2015. For now, it is worth saying that the project helps people realize that they are not alone in regards to discrimination, social pressures, etc.
We are very excited for all of the upcoming projects! We hope you all will get involved and bringing positivity to our community!
Our Thanksgiving YAS project was a success! We had at least seven people share the YAS status, and over 90 YAS posts within the few days the project was active. Good job to everyone who posted a YAS status! We will do another round of YAS near the last week of December.
For everyone who missed it, YAS (You are Special) was a Leaders UNITE social media movement where people posted status on Facebook and posted on Instagram. Whenever someone ‘liked” the respective post, they would get a personalized message on their wall saying why they are special and important. People could “share” the status and post it as their own to continue the cycle to another group of people. On Thanksgiving day, Ivana and Julia posted multiple YAS messages on people’s walls randomly- whether they knew about the tradition or not! It was a great way to spread the holiday cheer!
In honor of Thanksgiving week, Leaders UNITE is launching our first YAS week. YAS stands for “You are Special.” This project is similar to Compliment Cards, but it is an online version. Ivana and Julia are posting facebook statuses about YAS. If you like the status, they will post a nice message on your facebook wall. They will do this if you like their status, but they will also be posting randomly on people’s walls. The message will start off, “YAS because…” Hopefully, once you receive the message, you will post your own status about YAS. We hope this really kicks off, and that this will be the first of many YAS opportunities.
